Bay Guesthouse is located on the North West coast of St Lucia.

Population: 160,000 at last count (1995)

Geography: Approx 27 miles in length and 14 miles wide at its longest points and with a land area of 238 sq. miles. The highest point is Mt Gimie at 3117 ft high

Language: Officially English with a French based Patois commonly spoken.

History: Fought over 14 times between the French and English. Given independence by the British in 1979 although still within the British Commonwealth.

Famous for: The volcanic peaks called the Pitons in Soufriere which rise out of the water dramatically. A smouldering volcano in Soufriere. Money: Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC) is St Lucia's currency which is linked to the US Dollar. Usually 2.7 EC = 1 USD. There are many banks on the island who will take Travellers cheques and have ATMs. US Dollars are widely accepted as cash with a local street exchange of 2.5
