St Lucia is situated in the Caribbean and is part of the Windward Islands. St Lucia's nearest neighbours are the French island of Martinique 20 miles to the North and St Vincent to the South and Barbados approximately 100 miles to the South East.
St Lucia's calm Caribbean sea laps the west coast, the Atlantic Ocean beats against her east coast.
St Lucia is located 14 degrees North and 61 degrees West of the Greenwich Meridian Line, allowing a temperate tropical climate.
Bay Guesthouse is located on the North West coast of St Lucia, on Bay Street in the fishing village of Gros Islet. 30 seconds walk north is the quiet Pigeon Point Beach at the end of which is Pigeon Island (A St Lucia National Park) with its own two quiet secluded beaches. 20 seconds walk south down Bay Street is the small Gros Islet beach. Rodney Bay and its Reduit beach are a 5 minute ride away. Bay Guesthouse is ideally located as your base to explore St Lucia island – a busy bus stop is a 2 minute walk in the village centre which will take you to Castries, (capital of St Lucia), in around 20 minutes. From Castries the bus network spreads out across St Lucia island. If you want to get further off the beaten track taxis are numerous, we will of course be happy to book one for you. Nearby you will find small restaurants, BBQ joints, shops, bars and internet cafes

Population: 160,000 at last count (1995)
Geography: Approx 27 miles in length and 14 miles wide at its longest points and with a land area of 238 sq. miles. The highest point is Mt Gimie at 3117 ft high
Language: Officially English with a French based Patois commonly spoken.
History: Fought over 14 times between the French and English. Given independence by the British in 1979 although still within the British Commonwealth.
Famous for: The volcanic peaks called The Pitons near Soufriere which rise out of the water dramatically. A smouldering volcano in Soufriere. The St Lucian Parrot, rarely seen in the interior rain forest. Iguanas / Boa Constrictors on the North East Coast. Turtles laying their eggs on the East Coast at Grand Anse. Derek Walcott, a local playwright and poet who won the 1992 Nobel prize for literature.
Money: Eastern Caribbean Dollars (EC$) is St Lucia's currency which is linked to the US Dollar. Usually 2.67 EC$=1 US$. There are many banks on the island who will take Travellers cheques and have ATMs. US Dollars are widely accepted as cash with a local street exchange of 2.5

List of upcoming cricket matches to be played at St Lucia's cricket stadium. St Lucia is one of the important venues situated in West Indies and has hosted several matches till now. The National cricket stadium (Beausejour) is a 20 minute walk from the guesthouse.
St Lucia welcomes every year the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) in December. Come and see the finish line from Bay Guesthouse's patio!
The Visitor Channel is based in St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean. The Visitor Channel operates a vibrant television program on two (2) television networks as well as several social network sites offering all manner of advice to travelers and residents.
The Forestry Department is the principle agency responsible for managing forest and wildlife resources on the island of St. Lucia. They have several rainforest trails throughout the island and can arrange guides as required.
